Here I am comparing the work of one of the artists that will follow up and look at in the near future and an image that I have taken myself. I chose to look at these two images as they both have a similar connection because of the black and red colours used. The top image that I have taken doesn’t have a strong meaning or a specific purpose unlike Barbara Kruger’s work as that is created to make a statement and put a specific point across. The images have a similar connection with the use of words and the colours of the words presented with the black and red, these colours make the words stand out and become stronger and bolder on the eye. The image o took the word are just put there for display and make the room more exciting but Barbara has used words and statements which have meaning. The red and black make the words more powerful in both cases. the way the words are angled also have an effect because the image I have taken where the words are slanted and jumbled makes the image more exciting which suits its purpose but the words on Barbara’s work is placed and lined horizontally to take the eyes in a direction so that the word are read in a specific order. The font used in the work of Kruger is bold, the font is very large and created on a large canvas the words are big and powerful catching your attention.
I took this picture at the time not realising that it would have such an effective outcome, i decided to take this image on the window of a building as i thought it would be unique then just looking at graffiti or the names of companies, shops etc. When i looked back at this image i realised that that it had a very interesting effect because the reflection in the background was the writing of a business “cash converters” this creates a dynamic way to represent words on buildings by looking through reflections. The black “m” on the window also has a distinct effect as it fades away into the background creating different tones. This image creates a different pathway for me to look down and could create a very good platform.
